Insulin Response Test Training

Healthcare and lifestyle professionals gained practical experience with insulin response testing, using the EasyReader+® to measure hs-insulin and translate multiple measurements into an insulin response curve.

Swiss Point of Care recently hosted a practical training session for the Insulin Response Test, organised in collaboration with Ketogeen Instituut Nederland.

During the session, participants learned how to perform insulin measurements in practice and worked directly with the EasyReader+®. The practical training was led by Floor van Leeuwen, owner of SanaVita and specialised in ketogenic metabolic therapy and orthomolecular therapy based on kPNI principles.

Understanding the Insulin Response

After carbohydrate intake, blood glucose levels rise and the body releases insulin to help transport glucose from the bloodstream into the cells.

Blood glucose alone does not always show how much insulin the body needs to maintain this balance. Two people may have a similar glucose response while the amount of insulin required can differ considerably.

By measuring how quickly insulin rises, how high the response becomes and how long levels remain elevated, healthcare professionals can gain additional insight into the body’s metabolic response.

A higher or prolonged insulin response may indicate that the body needs to produce more insulin to regulate blood glucose effectively.

The Insulin Response Test measures insulin at several predefined moments over a two-hour period. These measurements are combined into an insulin response curve, making changes in insulin levels visible over time.

Practical Insulin Testing with the EasyReader+®

During the training, participants worked with the EasyReader+®, a compact point-of-care analyser designed for professional biomarker testing.

Its compact format and straightforward workflow make it suitable for use in healthcare practices, clinics and screening environments where measurements can be performed directly at the point of care.

Participants started with a fasting measurement and continued with additional measurements at set intervals up to 120 minutes. They learned how to collect and process the sample, perform the hs-insulin measurement and record the results to create an insulin response curve.

More Than Insulin Measurement

The EasyReader+® is not limited to hs-insulin testing.

The system supports a broader range of biomarkers, including:

  • Vitamin D
  • hs-CRP
  • TSH
  • Cortisol

This makes the EasyReader+® a versatile point-of-care solution for professionals who want to incorporate multiple biomarker measurements into their practice or screening services.

From Measurement to Interpretation

Performing the measurements is only part of the Insulin Response Test. Correct interpretation of the resulting curve is essential to understand the different response patterns.

The training therefore concludes with an interpretation session led by Peter Voshol, during which the measured insulin curves are reviewed and discussed.

By combining theoretical knowledge, practical testing and interpretation, participants learn how insulin measurements can be integrated into their professional practice in a structured and responsible way.

Supporting Professional Point-of-Care Testing

The practical training demonstrated how point-of-care technology can make biomarker testing more accessible within professional healthcare and lifestyle settings.

Swiss Point of Care was pleased to support the training together with Ketogeen Instituut Nederland and provide participants with practical experience using the EasyReader+®.

Together, we continue working toward making metabolic health measurable, accessible and actionable.
