Across Europe, the role of the community pharmacy is changing. Prevention, early detection and health screening are becoming an increasingly visible part of pharmacy care, with growing attention for measurements such as blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose.
For pharmacies, this creates an opportunity to contribute more actively to preventive care. The challenge is not only what to measure, but how to turn individual measurements into a practical, structured screening service that fits within the daily workflow.
A recent pilot at Adler Apotheke Rhaunen in Germany explored exactly that.
Together with Swiss Point of Care, the pharmacy implemented a cardiovascular screening pathway combining professional point-of-care diagnostics with a guided digital screening platform. During two screening days, almost 50 participants took part and all available appointments were fully booked.

A Structured Approach to Cardiovascular Screening
The screening combined several parameters relevant to cardiovascular risk, including cholesterol and lipid values, blood pressure, blood oxygen saturation, waist circumference, weight and height.
For the lipid profile, the Mission 3-in-1 was used to measure total cholesterol, HDL and triglycerides, with calculated LDL and cholesterol ratio. Preventative Health screening p…
Rather than treating each result as an isolated measurement, the screening brings multiple health parameters together within one structured assessment.
This allows the professional to build a broader picture of relevant risk factors and discuss the results with the participant in a more meaningful context.

From Measurement to a Complete Screening Program
Swiss Point of Care provides more than individual point-of-care devices.
The screening program combines CE-marked IVD systems, documentation, implementation support and a guided digital Screening App within one integrated workflow. Preventative Health screening p…
The platform guides the professional through the screening step by step. Measurements and relevant risk factors are recorded throughout the process and brought together in one clear overview at the end.
This means the pharmacy does not have to develop its own screening process from scratch. The equipment, workflow and digital reporting are connected within one screening concept.
For the participant, the result is more than a collection of separate values: it is a structured overview that can support discussion, awareness and appropriate follow-up.
What the Pilot Demonstrated
An important objective of the pilot was to assess how preventive screening would be received by participants and whether the service could be integrated into routine pharmacy practice.
The response was positive on both fronts.
All available appointments were booked, showing strong interest in accessible preventive screening.
From an operational perspective, pharmacist and owner Johannes Jaenicke indicated that a complete screening, including discussion of the results, could be performed in approximately 20 minutes.
A pharmacy staff member carrying out the screenings reported that the practical measurement process itself generally took around 10 to 15 minutes.
These observations show that a multi-parameter screening can remain compact enough for a pharmacy environment when the measurements, workflow and digital platform are properly integrated.
Designed for Practical Implementation
The screening concept is designed to support organisations at different stages of implementation.
Swiss Point of Care can support the process from defining the relevant screening parameters and selecting suitable devices through to pilot implementation and further rollout. Preventative Health screening p…
Organisations can start with a focused program, such as cardiovascular screening, and expand over time with additional measurements or biomarkers depending on their target group and objectives. Preventative Health screening p…
This makes the concept suitable not only for pharmacies, but also for occupational health providers, employers and other healthcare organisations looking to introduce structured preventive screening.
From Pilot to Practice
The Adler Apotheke pilot demonstrates how preventive screening can move from concept to practice.
By combining CE-marked point-of-care diagnostics, implementation support, a guided digital workflow and structured reporting, Swiss Point of Care helps healthcare organisations introduce screening without having to build the complete process independently.
The result is a screening service that is practical for professionals, accessible for participants and scalable for organisations that want to expand their preventive care offering.
